How to Unlock the Phone for an HTC Aria

HTC's Android-powered Aria smartphone is available exclusively from AT&T, but the Aria supports multiple GSM frequency bands and can operate on wireless networks all around the world. Before you can use your Aria with a SIM card from another carrier, you must enter a special "unlock" code into the phone to disassociate the device from AT&T. Each Aria mobile phone has a unique unlock code, which must be obtained from the wireless carrier that originally activated the phone.

Things You'll Need

  • New SIM card

Instructions

1
Contact AT&T at 800-331-0500 or dial 611 from your mobile phone and ask the customer service representative to provide the unlock code for your HTC Aria smartphone.

2
Pull the Aria's front panel away from the back cover to reveal the battery and the SIM card slot. Place your finger in the notch above the battery and remove the battery. Set the battery and the cover aside.

3
Slide the AT&T SIM card out of the SIM card slot. Insert a SIM card from a different wireless carrier. The gold contacts on the new SIM card should face into the phone as you insert the card.

4
Re-install the battery. Slide the bottom of the Aria into the bottom of the back cover and snap the cover in place.

5
Hold down the "Power" button on top of the Aria to turn it on. The phone will prompt you for your unlock code.

6
Enter your unlock code using the keypad on the Aria's touch-screen. Once you have entered the code, your Aria will accept SIM cards from any wireless provider.

Tips & Warnings

The Aria only supports 3G data on two frequency bands. Even though you may be able to access voice and data services on other wireless networks, you may experience slower data speeds when connected to some networks.
