How to Fix a Pixel on a Mac

You do not necessarily need to take your Macintosh computer in for a costly repair when a pixel has gotten "stuck" on the screen. You can fix the pixel so that it will no longer remain one color by running a free pixel-repair program on the Mac. The pixel repair program will fix the pixel by cycling through colors so that the pixel once again takes commands from the graphics card. Fixing the pixel using a pixel-repair program does not violate any warranty that might be in place.

Instructions

Things You'll Need

  • Pixel Fix program

1
Download a pixel-repair program, like the free Pixel Fix widget (see Resources).

2
Double-click on the file once it has downloaded to decompress it to a program on the desktop. Double-click on the program to install it into the Mac's operating system. Restart the computer.

3
Press the "F12" key on the keyboard. Select the pixel-repair program from the windows that have appeared on the desktop.

4
Select one of the color bars on the main screen. Set the "Cycle" column at the bottom of the color bars to "1."

5
Set the "Flash" interval slider at the right side of the screen to the three-quarters mark.

6
Click on the "Go" or "Start" button on the program's screen. Wait as the screen cycles through the color that was selected.

7
Press the "Stop" or "Cease" button on the program's screen after an hour has passed

8
Select another color bar from the choices presented on the left side of the screen if the pixel is still evident. Repeat the procedure.

9
Continue selecting a color bar and reporting the procedure until you no longer see the stuck pixel. Press the "F12" key to return the screen to its normal view

Tips & Warnings

Raise the brightness level of the iMac screen so that you can more easily see the stuck pixel while fixing it.
