How to Connect Wii to my Files

Connecting the Nintendo Wii to your computer so that you can readily transfer files back and forth between the two requires a special file transfer protocol (FTP) program and an active Internet connection that is connected to both the computer and the Wii console. Once they are connected you will be able to transfer files to the Wii's SD card or from the SD card to the computer. This means that you can save far more information for the Wii by storing it on your computer. If you have a modded Wii this would be a simple way to transfer movies or game files.

Instructions

Things You'll Need

  •  FTPii on your computer
  •  Wii
  •  Computer with Internet
  •  SD card in the Wii

1
Turn on the Wii console. Select "Wii Options" from the main menu screen and press "A" on the Wiimote to select it. The options icon is in the lower left-hand corner of the screen.

2
Highlight "Wii Settings" and press "A" to select it. Select "Internet" from the second page of listings. Open it by highlighting it and pressing "A."

3
Select "Console Information" from the top of the list. On the page it will display, write down the IP address and TCPPort for your Wii.

4
Run Windows Explorer on your computer and type "ftp://YourWiiIPAdress:TCPPort" into the address bar, without the quote marks. "YourWiiIPAddress" is the IP address you just took from your Wii. The TCPPort is also from the Wii. Press "Enter."

5
Double-click on the folder titled "SD." It should have a symbol that looks like a globe with an upside-down T-shaped pipe on it. This is your Wii SD card file. You are now connected to your Wii files.
