Video games or other software that is developed and maintained by consumers and used on proprietary hardware systems is commonly referred to as "homebrew." Although some homebrew tools are harmful and can cause problems, most are very interesting and useful. If you want homebrew games and software on your Nintendo Wii 4.2 game console, you must first unlock -- or jailbreak -- it first. Jailbreaking is not illegal in the United States, but it will void your device's warranty. Once you have access to the Game Channel you can install any homebrew software on your Wii.

- SD card
- SD card reader

Connect the card reader to your computer and insert the SD card. Windows immediately recognizes it and creates a new drive. Save everything on the SD card that you want to keep elsewhere and then delete everything on the SD card; it must be empty.

Open your favorite Web browser and navigate to the official BannerBomb website (see link in Resources). Click on the "abd6a_v200.zip" link and save the file on your hard drive. Right-click on the ZIP file, select the "Extract All" option, select the SD card and click on the "Extract" button to extract the contents of the archive on the SD card.

Navigate to the official BotMii website (see link in Resources). Click on the "Download" button in the navigation menu. Click on the "HackMii Installer v0.8" link and save the archive on your computer. Right-click on the archive, select the "Extract All" option, select a folder to extract the archive to and click the "Extract" button.

Go to the "Start" menu and click on the "Computer" icon to start the file browser. Navigate to the folder where you extracted the HackMii Installer, right-click on the "boot.elf" file and select the "Copy" option. Navigate to the SD card drive and press "Ctrl-V" to paste the file.

Insert the SD card in your Wii's SD card slot and use the controller to go to the "SD Card Menu" (a blue card icon). Go to the "Data Management" tab, select "Channels" and go to the "SD Card" tab. A "Load boot.dol/elf" message pops up.

Select "Yes" to get to the "Multi-Mod-Manager" screen. Select the "App Manager," press "A" to launch, select "hackmii_installer_v0.8" and press "A" to launch

Press "A" to continue, select the "Install The Homebrew Channel," press "A" to start installing the channel, select the "Yes, Continue" option and press "A." The Homebrew Channel is installed. Press "A" to continue.

Select "BotMii" and press "A." Select "Install BotMii as IOS" and press "A." Select the "Yes, Continue" option and press "A." Select "Yes, Continue" again and press "A." Press "A" when you see the "Success" message. Exit the multi-manager menu.

Place some homebrew games or apps on the SD card, go to the "Homebrew Channel" on the Wii Menu and select the "Start" option. The tool lists the homebrew software. Select any item and click on the "Load" button to install it.
