How to Tether Your HTC 4G on Sprint

HTC offers phones on numerous networks in the US, and as of May 2011, the company five phones available for the Sprint network. Of those, the EVO 4G and the EVO Shift 4G are compatible with Sprint's speedy fourth-generation cellular network. The newer phone, the Shift 4G, is immediately ready to extend its network connection as Internet access to your computer, and over-the-air updates have enabled that same feature on the original EVO 4G. You can tether either phone in just a minute or two.

Instructions

Things You'll Need

  • Data plan with tethering
  • Phone USB cable

1
Plug the phone cord into an available USB port on your computer.

2
Plug the other end of the cord into the USB jack on your EVO. The EVO Shift 4G has its USB jack on the left edge of the phone. The original EVO 4G has its jack on the bottom edge; the USB jack is the one nearest to the microphone.

3
Wait to see the "Connect to PC" notification window.

4
Tap "USB Tethering" in the window.

5
Tap "Done."

Tips & Warnings

You will have to disable the tethering relationship with your computer if you want to use "HTC Sync" or use the phone's "Disk drive" feature.

Any data your computer uses while tethered will count against your phone's data plan.
