How to Jailbreak My PS3 With the Rockbox


Jailbroken PlayStation 3 consoles can go beyond the limitations of original system programming and allow you to add user-generated software to your system. Numerous methods of jailbreaking the PS3 have emerged since the console's release including the use of USB drives and iPods loaded with programs such as Rockbox


Instructions

Things You'll Need

  •  iPod Classic
  •  Rockbox Installer
  •  PS Groove


Installing Rockbox

Download the Rockbox installer and Rockbox boot loader from Rockbox.org and launch the installer to extract Rockbox to your computer.

Connect your iPod to your computer and wait for your computer to recognize it. Select the option to "View Files" from the window that opens on your computer screen after connecting your iPod.

Extract the Rockbox files to the main directory of your iPod. Depending on the release, this directory may be in a folder titled "Root." Allow Rockbox to replace all of the original files in your iPod's root directory.

Launch the Rockbox boot loader and a new window will open. Type "I" in this window and press "Enter" on your keyboard to install Rockbox to your iPod.

Disconnect your iPod then press and hold the "Menu" and center buttons simultaneously for six seconds to reboot your iPod with Rockbox loaded.


Installing PSGroove

Download the PSGroove Rockbox installer from Github.com.

Connect your iPod to your computer and launch the PSGroove Rockbox installer.

Select the "1 Click Installation" option from the 1 Click Installation tab and wait for PSGroove to install on your iPod. Disconnect the iPod after the installation is complete

Jailbreaking your PS3

Remove any discs or USB-enabled devices from your PS3 and disconnect it from the power supply for at least 10 seconds.

Turn on your iPod and connect it to the far-right USB port on your PS3.

Plug your console back into the power supply and press the "Power button." Quickly press the "Power" button followed by the "Eject" button to jailbreak your PS3.

Tips & Warnings

While jailbreaking your PS3 is not illegal, it can void your warranty and prevent you from accessing the PlayStation Network.

 Attempting to jailbreak your console may irreparably damage it.

 Installing Rockbox to your iPod may damage it and void your warranty.
