How to Jailbreak your Iphone 3GS

With the recently released iPhone 3GS and the all around OS update 3.0, many people are looking to unlock their new Apply iPhone 3GS. The process is not difficult and should only take a few minutes if you have everything you need. This guide will work for both Mac and PC users.

Things You'll Need

  • iPhone 3GS
  • UltraSn0w application
  • Upgraded iTunes to iTunes 8.2 Final version.

Instructions

1 Create a new folder on your computer to store your downloaded files. Put all the files in this folder (including the 3.0 firmware). This will make the process easier to manage. Connect your iPhone to your computer and launch iTunes.

2 In iTunes, select the phone, hold down shift and click "restore".

3 Go to the folder you created and select the 3.0 firmware. Start the process. Launch quickpwn.

4 Select the blue arrow and navigate to your iPhone firmware.

5 Select the 3.0 firmware from your folder.

6 Quickpwn will run a short test to make sure everything is compatible. If you run into an issue here, restart the process. If all went well, you will see an arrow that allows you to continue.

7 You will now be given a list of things you can install. These are not mandatory, but you should install Cydia as it will come in handy later.

8 Once you've decided, Quickpwn will verify your settings before you continue. Make sure you are positive before you continue.

9 Your phone will go into recovery mode automatically. You will then need to hold the HOME button for five seconds, hold the HOME and POWER buttons for ten seconds, release the POWER button but continue to hold HOME until your phone goes into DFU MODE.

10 If done correctly, Quickpwn will take over and begin the jailbreaking process.

11 If everything work correctly, the jailbreak is complete. If you installed Cydia as recommended, you will see that screen. If not, you will see the default screen.

12 Enjoy and begin adding APPS!

Tips & Warnings

While it is very unlikely if you follow the instructions, myself or eHow are not liable for any damage caused to your phone or computer while doing this process. Make sure you read everything thoroughly and make sure you have all the required equipment beforehand.
