How to Repair Windows Vista Without a CD

Although you can repair a computer that uses the Windows Vista operating system with a repair disc, the disc is not necessary to perform the repair as long as Startup Repair is pre-installed on your computer. Many computers that run on Windows Vista do have Startup Repair pre-installed. Repairing the Vista computer using Startup Repair is a fairly simple process, although it can take several minutes to complete.

Instructions

1 Remove any DVDs or CDs from your computer.

2 Click "Start." Select the lock icon and choose "Restart."

3 Press and hold the "F8" key on your keyboard as Windows restarts, before the Windows logo appears. The "Advanced Boot Options" screen will appear.

4 Use the arrow keys to highlight "Repair your computer" and press "Enter."

5 Select the representative keyboard layout from the screen and click "Next."

6 Select the administrator's username and type the admin password. Click "OK."

7 Click "Startup Repair" in the "System Recovery Options" screen. Vista might ask you questions to help it diagnose what it needs to repair. Vista also may restart your computer when the repair is complete.
