How to Jailbreak an iPod Touch 4.2.1

When you jailbreak an iPod touch, the device is unlocked from iTunes. Once unlocked you can download software from third-party developers through the independent Cydia app store, which is installed as part of the jailbreaking process. An iPod touch running version 4.2.1 of the iOS operating system can be jailbroken quickly, safely and securely using the Jailbreakme website.

Instructions

  1. Open the JailbreakMe website on your iPod touch by launching the Safari Web browser and typing "http://www.jailbreakme.com" into the address bar.
  2. Tap the blue "Free" button in the upper right corner of the Cydia app store listing displayed on the JailbreakMe website.
  3. Tap the button again when it turns green and the text changes to "Install." Cydia is downloaded to your iPod touch, initiating the jailbreaking process.
  4. Launch Cydia once downloading has completed by tapping its icon on the Home screen. A dialog box will appear, requesting you upgrade to the latest version of Cydia.
  5. Tap the "Complete Upgrade" button to download the latest Cydia installation. The iPod touch will restart after the upgrade has finished to complete the jailbreaking process.

Tips & Warnings
  • The JailbreakMe method of jailbreaking your iPod touch does not require you to reset your device, so all games, apps and multimedia content is retained without having to sync with your computer after completion.
  • Performing a full backup and synchronization through iTunes before jailbreaking is recommended, in case you decide to reverse the jailbreak in the future.
  • f you restore or update your iPod touch through iTunes, its jailbroken status will be lost. However, you can still sync with iTunes as normal without affecting the jailbreak.
