How to Buff Out Scratches on a Phone After Dropping It

Scratches on your phone can make it hard to distinguish numbers or text.
Cell phones and their screens become scratched with time, particularly when you accidentally drop the phone. Commercially available liquid products are available to polish damaged phones and screens, but cell phone owners can also use a number of household items to remove scratches. It is not easy to remove deep scratches, but you can typically remove minor scratches by applying either one, or a combination of creams or pastes. The correct application method is to use a circular movement, not unlike the motion required when waxing a vehicle.

Instructions

Things You'll Need

  • Commercial cell phone cleaning and repair liquid
  • Soft, clean and dry cotton cloth
  • Toothpaste
  • Bowl (optional)
  • Tap water (optional)
  • Baby powder (optional)
  • Two teaspoons (optional)
  • Baking powder (optional)
  • Metal polish (optional)
  • Silver polish (optional)

1 Squeeze one drop from a commercial cell phone cleaning and repair liquid on the body or screen of your device. Use a soft cotton cloth that is clean and dry and buff the affected area using slight pressure. Rub in a small circular motion for ten to fifteen seconds. Repeat if necessary. It can take up to three-quarters of an hour to remove very deep scratches.

2 Squeeze a teaspoonful of toothpaste on the corner of a clean cloth. Hold your cell phone in one hand and carefully apply the toothpaste to the screen of the phone. Rub gently in tiny circles. Use toothpaste, and not a toothpaste gel, for this application. Clean the affected area with a damp cloth after applying the toothpaste.

3 Pour a small quantity of tap water in a bowl and slowly add baby powder from a teaspoon. Stir the mixture with a second teaspoon until you have a paste-like consistency. Place the corner of a clean cloth over your index finger and use your finger to scoop up a tiny amount of the mixture. Use this paste as an alternative, to toothpaste. Apply a tiny amount of this paste to the cell phone screen and rub it on the glass, in a circular movement. Clean the affected area with a damp cloth after applying the baby powder.

4 Pour a small quantity of tap water in a bowl and slowly add baking powder from a teaspoon. Stir the mixture with a second teaspoon, until you have a paste-like consistency. Place the corner of a clean cloth over your index finger and use your finger to scoop up a tiny amount of the mixture. Use this paste as an alternative to toothpaste or baby powder. Apply a tiny amount of this paste to the cell phone screen and rub it on the glass, in a circular movement. Clean the affected area with a damp cloth after applying the baking powder.

5 Shake a bottle of metal or silver polish and pour a small amount on a clean cloth, after removing the top. Use either product as an alternative to toothpaste, baby powder or baking powder. Apply a tiny amount of this paste to the cell phone screen and rub it on the glass, in a circular movement. Clean the affected area with a damp cloth after applying these products.
