How to Fix a Computer With a Blank Screen Virus

A blank screen virus is caused by a file on your hard drive that blocks your graphical adapter from displaying images properly on the screen. The only way to fix a blank screen virus is to perform a complete reinstallation of the computer's operating system. This will delete the old corrupted file from your hard drive and leave the computer functioning again. While you will lose the data on your hard drive, your computer will once again be useful.

Instructions

Things You'll Need

  • Windows installation disk

  1. Insert the Windows installation disk into your hard drive and turn on or reboot the computer.
  2. Tap any key constantly as the computer boots up to load into the Windows installation screen.
  3. Press "Enter" to begin the installation process.
  4. Delete the current hard drive partition using the on-screen partition manager by pressing the "D" key. Create a new partition in its place, and assign Windows to be installed on it by highlighting it with the arrow keys and pressing "Enter."
  5. Format the partition using the NTFS file system, which is a method for arranging the files on a hard drive.
  6. Follow the remainder of the on-screen instructions to complete the installation, including entry of your product ID and the correct date and time.
