How to Install Cydia on an iPad

Jailbreaking your iPad will allow you to install a wide variety of apps through the Cydia app store that are not approved under Apple's warranty. Although jailbreaking is legal, it will void your warranty with Apple, so ensure that you have good technical knowledge of the iPad should any issues arise. With the Spirit jailbreak application, you can jailbreak your iPad in one step. Once your iPad is jailbroken, the Cydia app store will be installed automatically.

Instructions

Things You'll Need
iPad with firmware 3.1.2, 3.1.3, or 3.2
iTunes 9 or earlier

1
Attach your iPad to the computer by inserting one end of its USB cord into the computer's USB port and the other end into the iPad's data port. Double-click the iTunes icon if it doesn't launch automatically. Click the iPad's icon in the "Devices" section of iTunes. Click "Sync." Wait for the sync to complete. Click "Eject" and disconnect your iPad from the computer.

2
Launch your computer's Web browser and navigate to spiritjb.com. Click the download link that matches your operating system. Save the download to your desktop. Double-click the download link to install the Spirit application to your computer. Restart your computer.

3
Double-click the Spirit icon to open the application. Reconnect your iPad to the computer the same way you did in Step 1.

4
Click "Jailbreak." The Spirit application will start to jailbreak your iPad. It will reboot your iPad once the jailbreak is complete, and you will have Cydia installed automatically on your iPad.
